Transferring your SEVIS Record

Transfer Your SEVIS Record to S&T

The transfer process allows you to electronically move your Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) record and retain the same SEVIS identification number as a student. If you are an F-1 student currently studying in the United States and wish to transfer to Missouri S&T, please follow the steps below. Missouri S&T does not require a transfer eligibility form, however if your record is in Terminated Status we will not accept the transfer.

  1. Submit your application and be accepted to Missouri S&T.
  2. Maintain a legal F-1 status at your current institution.
  3. Notify your current institution's designated school official (typically an international student adviser) of the SEVIS transfer.
    • The date your SEVIS record is transferred to S&T is no more than five months before the beginning of the next semester at S&T.
    • The date must be within the 60-day grace period after the completion date of your program or optional practical training.
    • If you are currently participating in OPT or STEM OPT, the employment authorization will end on the date your SEVIS record is released.
    • The designated school official at your current institution will submit your transfer request to SEVIS. The S&T SEVIS number may be required – KAN214F10190000.
  4. In addition, you must submit these required documents via the ISSS Gateway Portal.
    • Proof of financial support
    • Copy of passport and visa
    • Copy of most recent I-94 record
  5. Your SEVIS record will be electronically transferred to S&T on your release date.
  6. S&T will issue you a new I-20 via the ISSS Gateway Portal.
    • You must use your S&T I-20 when you re-enter the United States if you travel outside the U.S.

Transfer Your SEVIS Record from S&T

As an F-1 student with an initial SEVIS record, you are eligible to have your SEVIS record transferred to another SEVP-certified school in the United States.  The benefit of transferring your SEVIS record is that you will not need to be assigned a new SEVIS ID number, pay the SEVIS I-901 fee again, or apply for a new visa.  Instead, we will make a transaction within SEVIS to have your record released to your new school of admission on the date of your request.

To start the transfer process, we will need a few items from you. You must report to our school by the program start date listed on the Form I-20. It is not necessary for you to check-in in person with our office, instead you can complete the process fully online. The following items will need to be completed via our ISSS Gateway Portal prior to your SEVIS record being transferred.

Complete these items found on the Request Center of your ISSS Gateway Portal.

  1. Complete the SEVIS Check-in and Registration Request
    • You will need to upload your F-1 Visa, Form I-94, and enter your U.S. Address.
  2. Complete the SEVIS Transfer Out Request
    • You will need to provide the SEVP School Code for the new university and your new admission letter.

Important information to be aware of:

  1. The date of your entry to the United States matters. Your SEVIS record cannot be transferred to a new SEVP school if your admission date is 30 days later than your entry. In order to transfer your record in this case you will need to fully enroll and complete the process with our school to activate your SEVIS record and then we will transfer your record accordingly.
  2. Failure to submit all forms and documents within the restricted timeline of the SEVIS registration process can result in the termination of your record for failure to enroll. Alternatively, if the time elapses you may choose to terminate your record for authorized early withdrawal and pay the SEVIS I-901 fee from the new university. Withdrawing will place a 15-day grace period for departure from the United States.
