Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a temporary job training opportunity that must be directly related to an F-1 student's major area of study. It is intended to provide a student with practical experience in his or her field of study upon completion of a degree program. Students may be eligible for an extension of their OPT, known as the STEM OPT 24-Month Extension if they have received a degree in a recognized STEM field and have completed their Post-Completion Optional Practical Training period of up to 12-months.
All OPT and STEM OPT Recommendation Requests can be found in your ISSS Gateway Portal. Complete the required information on the request. For questions regarding the application of the OPT/STEM OPT process, review the information on this webpage and then contact your international advisor. If you are unsure of who your assigned international advisor is, please see the advising-staff-directory.
