The Office of International Affairs coordinates international activities at Missouri S&T including working with various Missouri S&T departments to assist either prospective exchange or sponsored students coming to Missouri S&T, or research scholars on temporary assignment from international institutions in receiving timely and accurate DS-2019 documents to facilitate their program participation.

EXCHANGE STUDENT

• Missouri S&T and the exchange student's home university must have a current formal exchange relationship.
• The Office of International Affairs must receive for the period of the exchange a letter of admission for non-degree program study from Missouri S&T's Office of Admissions.

SPONSORED STUDENT

• The general requirements for the issuance of a DS-2019 to a prospective Missouri S&T student who is sponsored are the same as for the student who is to receive an I-20 with the following exception: the sponsoring organization must submit a letter of sponsorship for the period of the sponsored student's program of study to the Office of International Affairs. 

VISITING RESEARCH SCHOLAR

• The Missouri S&T sponsoring faculty advisor/department must submit a completed DS-2019 Request Form and a DS-2019 Request Checklist to the Office of International Affairs to request either a new or renewal of a DS-2019 for a visiting research scholar. Please see general J-1 information for Missouri S&T sponsoring departments.
• The visiting research scholar may be funded either by Missouri S&T resources or funding from his home country sponsor. If funded by a home country sponsor, the visiting scholar must submit to the Office of International Affairs proof of funding documentation.
• The visiting research scholar must hold an advanced degree in his field of research in order to qualify for J-1 program participation as a Research Scholar.A copy of the scholar's resume must accompany the DS-2019 Request Form.
• The visiting scholar is advised to inquire about the latest visa application and SEVIS fee requirements before making a visa interview appointment with the local U.S. Consulate. Information regarding SEVIS fee and J-1's.

• INSURANCE: All J-1 students and scholars are required to enroll in Missouri S&T's student/scholar insurance plan. Please refer to international student/scholar insurance information. Please do not hesitate to contact us at ia@mst.edu if you have any questions regarding this important matter.
• CHECK-IN: You should check-in with the Office of International Affairs as soon as you arrive in Rolla. Please see our welcome letter to remind you of some important information.
