Missouri S&T hosts open forum: Executive Order Update & International Student Impact
Representatives from the Missouri University of Science & Technology came together to support the S&T international community, by hosting an open forum that allowed attendees to ask questions and share their concerns about President Trump's January 27th executive order banning travel from seven countries. It is estimated that 117 S&T students are affected by the order. Click here to continue reading about this event.

S&T Delegation Visits China
A delegation from Missouri S&T, including Dr. Warren K. Wray, Vice Chancellor of Global and Strategic Partnerships, Dr. Stephen S. Gao, Professor of Geology and Geophysics, and Ms. Jodi Hasekamp, Prospective International Student Advisor, recently visited China.
During their trip from October 8-16, 2016, the group visited several partner universities to discuss how Missouri S&T can further collaborate with these institutions and build upon our current relationships. They also had the chance to meet with several prospective students, who are interested in taking advantage of the opportunities available to them through transfer agreements Missouri S&T has established with these Chinese universities.
Missouri S&T Hosts delegation from University of the Western Cape, South Africa
In conjunction with celebrating the 30th anniversary of the partnership between University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the University of Missouri, Missouri S&T hosted five UWC delegates on September 29th, 2016. Discussions focused on undergraduate transfer programs and research collaboration efforts.

S&T Delegation visits Washington, D.C.
During the first week of August, Ms. Susan Potrafka, Assistant Director of International and Cultural Affairs, Ms. Hannah Helmick, Sponsored Student Manager, and Ms. Jodi Hasekamp, Prospective International Student Advisor were in Washington, D.C. to attend the 2016 EducationUSA Forum. This was an excellent conference to network with EducationUSA advisors and learn about the latest trends in international enrollment. While in D.C. the S&T delegation also took the opportunity to visit embassies and sponsoring agencies. Missouri S&T greatly values these relationships and were happy to discuss how we can best support these students.
Yunnan University of Finance and Economics Visits Campus
Missouri S&T welcomed a delegation from Yunnan University of Finance and Economics in China on Thursday, August 18. The delegation included Dr. Hong Chen, Vice President, Dr. Qiongwei Ye, Associate Dean of the Business School, Dr. Zengxiong Yang, Associate Dean of the Business School, Dr. Yuankun Nie, Professor, MBA Director of the Business School, Dr. Nangai Yang, Associate Professor of the Business School, and Dongshu Jiang, Lecturer, Office Manager of the Business School. The group met with Dr. Keng Siau, Department Chair and Professor of Business and Information Technology at Missouri S&T.
Missouri S&T welcomes new international class of 2016
Schuman Park came alive recently with music, dancing and food at the Welcome Picnic for the new and returning international Missouri S&T students.
Hosted by the S&T Office of International and Cultural Affairs, the event featured students from over 20 countries from around the globe enjoying slices of watermelon, snow cones and other food items, plus games of washers and volleyball.
“We are so honored to have you here at S&T and in our Rolla community,” said Assistant Vice Chancellor Dr. Jeanie Hofer as she greeted the crowd. “We are here for you to make you feel welcome and assist you in any way that you might need. We know that you will find this a very welcoming community.”
The international students from more than 60 countries will be attending S&T and majoring in such disciplines as petroleum engineering, nuclear engineering, electrical, civil, aerospace, mining and others.
The campus radio station, KMST provided the music at the event which seemed to have universal appeal with students knowing the various dance moves and lyrics to the songs being played.
Celebrating 20 years of service with Susan Potrafka
The Office of International and Cultural Affairs is proud to honor Susan Potrafka who has reached a significant milestone in her career. Susan had dedicated more than twenty years of service to the University. Susan began her career in 1996 as a Buyer for Procurement, after five years of in the Procurement department she was promoted to Manager of Campus Procurement Services. In July 2010 Susan transitioned to the Office of International and Cultural Affairs as an International Student Advisor. On April 29, 2012 Susan was promoted to the Assistant Director and has remained in this position to date.
Susan’s loyalty, hard work and enthusiasm have contributed to our department’s success. She is a valuable member of the team.
We thank you and applaud you for your ongoing commitment and dedication to the University.
MISSOURI S&T HOSTED SHENZHEN UNIVERSITY FROM CHINA
Missouri S&T welcomed Dr. Wujian Long, Deputy Dean of College of Civil Engineering from Shenzhen University in China. Dr. Long met with Dr. Jeanie Hofer and Ms. Jodi Haseakmp from the Office of International and Cultural Affairs as well as with Dr. Kamal Kayat, Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at Missouri S&T.
MISSOURI S&T WELCOMES HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY
Missouri S&T was happy to welcome a delegation from Hong Kong Polytechnic University to campus. The group included Dr. Vincent Ng, Chair of the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Korris Chung, Associate Head of the Department of Computer Science, and 20 students, all studying computer science. They were able to explore campus on Friday, and meet with the Admissions Office and the department of Business and Information Technology. On Saturday, Dr. Das and the S&T Computer Science department hosted a seminar for the group.
UNIVERSITY OF SAO PAULO VISITS CAMPUS
On Thursday, May 19, 2016, Dr. Rafael Giuliano Poleggi, from University of São Paulo in Brazil visited Missouri S&T's campus. Dr. Poleggi is a professor in the Construction Engineering Department at the University of São Paulo. He met with Dr. Jeanie Hofer, Office of International and Cultural Affairs as well as with Dr. Kamal Khayat and Dr. Dimitri Feys, Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering to discuss building a partnership between Missouri S&T and University of São Paulo.
SACM attended the Annual Missouri S&T Saudi Night
A delegation from the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission visited Missouri S&T to attend the annual Saudi Night, organized by the Saudi Student Association. Drs. Fickret and Nuran Ercal represented S&T at A2 international education fair in Turkey
Dr. Fikret Ercal, Professor at the Department of Computer Science, and Dr, Nuran Ercal, Professor at the Department of Chemistry attended the A2 International Education Fair in April 2016. Drs. Fiket and Nuran Ercal represented Missouri S&T to a large audience of prospective students in several cities in Turkey. While there, they hosted an alumni event with Missouri S&T graduates living in Turkey.
S&T Delegation Visits Botswana
On March 18-25, 2016, Dr. Warren K Wray, Vice Chancellor for Strategic and Global Partnerships, his wife, Judge Mary W. Sheffield, Dr. Jeanie Hofer, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International and Cultural Affairs and Dr. John Wilson, visited the Republic of Botswana. While in Botswana, the S&T delegation visited the University of Botswana, the Ministry of Higher Education and held an alumni event with S&T graduates.
As a highlight of the visit, Judge Sheffield had visited the Botswana National Museum and really liked one of the paintings. Later, she learned that the painting is the work of an S&T graduate, Mr. Goabaone Mathware. Mr. Mathware graduated from Missouri S&T in May 2015 with a degree in Mining Engineering and Economics. Judge Sheffield went back and bought the painting for their home.

EDUCATION MALAYSIA CHICAGO VISITS S&T
Madam Azimah Aziz, Director and Mr. Zainal Alam Alzasha Illiyyin, Education Attaché from Education Malaysia Chicago visited the Missouri S&T Campus on March 8, 2016. The visitors met with several S&T academic departments as well as with Malaysian international students and S&T students who studied abroad in Malaysia.
Director of International Affairs and Vice Provost for Graduate Studies Visit Thailand
In early January 2016, Mr. James Monahan, Director of the Office of International and Cultural Affairs and Dr. Venkat Allada, Vice Provost for Graduate Studies visited Thailand. The purpose of the visit was to meet with partner universities and institutions as well as to speak with prospective students. While in Thailand, the S&T delegation hosted an alumni dinner.
